Florian Bong-Kil Grosse is a Berlin-based photographer who was born in South Korea and adopted to Germany, where he grew up. Returning to Korea as an adult, he photographed his impressions of his birth country. The series called ‘Hanguk Diary’ is a result of extended visits to Korea.
The juxtaposition of the bustling cities and isolated nature reflects his own feeling of in-betweenness, which he feels as an outsider in his native country.
“The photographs translate my impressions of a place which is both completely strange to me but oddly familiar as well,” he says.
